SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team lost a 1-0 game to 12th ranked West Chester University Saturday afternoon at James Egli Field.
Before the match, The Rock honored the careers of five SRU seniors for Senior Day.

Tyler McCarthy,
Steven Rerick,
Jonathan Sharp and
Patrick Sullivan were all recognized for their contributions to the Slippery Rock University men's soccer program.
The Rock and West Chester battled the entire game. However, after a late goal from the Golden Rams, WCU was able to hold on for a 1-0 victory
With the loss, Slippery Rock falls to 4-9-3 overall and 3-5-2 in league games. WCU improves to 12-2-1 overall and 10-0-0 in league play.
SRU nearly took an early 1-0 lead over WCU when
George Oakley fired a shot on target. However, goalkeeper Matt Palmer made the save.
Slippery Rock almost scored again early when
Cory Olix sent one toward the net that just went high.
The Golden Rams was looking for a 1-0 lead of its own when Kyle Hoops headed one toward the net, but Sharp was there to make the save. The Rock and West Chester entered halftime scoreless.
Right out of the gate, WCU threatened. After a foul in the box in the 52nd minute, WCU was awarded a penalty kick opportunity. Brett Glasco took the chance and fired toward the lower right side, but Sharp dove to make a stellar save.
Just a minute later, West Chester's Colin Hester took a shot on target, but it was Sharp again making the stop.
Slippery Rock nearly took a late lead at 77:31 when
Justin Minda sent a shot toward goal that Palmer was there to save.
After 86 minutes of scoreless play, it was the Golden Rams who were able to take the advantage when Hoops headed a ball in the net off a corner kick. WCU took the lead, 1-0.
SRU was unable to muster a shot opportunity in the remaining time and West Chester held on for the win.
Sharp finished with five saves in the net for Slippery Rock.
Oakley and Minda tallied a shot on goal apiece.
The Rock will take a break from conference play when it travels to Wheeling, W. Va. for a 7:30 p.m. game against Wheeling Jesuit Oct. 25.
