Rock blanks California (Pa.), 3-0

The Slippery Rock women’s soccer team shut out California (Pa.) 3-0 in PSAC play Sunday afternoon.

CALIFORNIA, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team blanked California University of Pennsylvania 3-0 Sunday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play.
 
Madison Johnson, Maddy Tletski and Brooke Testa all tallied a goal in the victory. The Rock defense along with goalkeepers Kylie Downs and Kara Seebacher recorded a PSAC-best seventh shutout of the season.
 
Not even ten minutes into the game at 9:39, Johnson received a pass from Testa off a corner kick that she headed into the net for the score. It was Johnson's third goal of the season.
 
At 27:29, Tletski received a through ball from Testa that she deposited into the net to give SRU a 2-0 lead. It was Tletski's third goal of the year.
 
Just before the break in the 40th minute, Testa was on the receiving end of a pass from Madison Thierry that she fired into the net for the score. It was Testa's fourth goal of 2017. SRU took its 3-0 lead into halftime.
 
Slippery Rock almost made it a 4-0 lead at 60:37 when Kaitlyn Barackman sent a shot that went wide left. Testa also put one on target at 75:26, but it also went left.
 
The best chance for California to get on the scoreboard was at 65:10 when Daniela Dell'Aquila sailed one toward the net that Downs was able to save.
 
At 71:54, Kiley Austin headed a ball over the net and SRU was able to hold on for the 3-0 victory.
 
Slippery Rock outshot the Vulcans 14-2 for the game and held the advantage in shots on goal, 8-1.
 
The victory was SRU's fourth straight, which is now its longest winning streak of 2017.
 
Testa's goal and two assists give her a team-leading 14 total points on the season, which is tied for seventh-best in the PSAC.
 
The Rock will be back in action 1 p.m. Wednesday when it plays at Mercyhurst in a PSAC match.
