Rock falls to Bloomsburg in OT, 3-2

The Rock suffered an overtime defeat to Bloomsburg, 3-2, Saturday in PSAC play at Steph Pettit Stadium to drop to 9-6 on the season.

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University field hockey team suffered an overtime loss to Bloomsburg University, 3-2, Saturday in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play at Steph Pettit Stadium.

The loss dropped Slippery Rock's record to 9-6 overall and 4-3 in PSAC play. The win improved Bloomsburg's record to 8-6 overall and 4-2 in PSAC play.

Slippery Rock received one goal each from Brittany Morgan and Hannah Downing, with Kailee Krupski adding an assist.

Five players recorded shots for The Rock. Liz Wolfe led the team with three, followed by Morgan with two. Downing, Kayla Ulrich and Kayla Mack all added one shot apiece.

Goalkeepers Nicole Bream and Maddie Murphy split time in cage for SRU. Bream started the game, allowing one goal during her 28:33 minutes of play. Murphy subbed in late in the first half, allowing two goals while recording four saves during her 42:20 minutes of action.

Ali McKay put the Huskies on the board first, scoring just eight minutes into the game. Morgan evened the score at 1-1 just over six minutes later after scoring off a Krupski assist. In the second half of action, Downing gave The Rock a 2-1 lead after scoring a penalty stroke goal in the 53rd minute. With less than four minutes left in regulation, Alyssa Broadt scored off a Sally DeLuca assist to even the score at 2-2 and send the game to overtime. Less than a minute into overtime, MacKenna Mahan scored off a McKay assist to give Bloomsburg the 3-2 victory.

Bloomsburg goalkeeper Dana Sheply allowed two goals while recording three saves during her 70:53 minutes of action.

For the game, Bloomsburg led Slippery Rock in shots (15-8), shots on goal (8-5) and penalty corners (10-6).

Up next, The Rock returns home for a PSAC matchup against Mercyhurst 4 p.m. Tuesday at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
