Rock blanks Seton Hill, 3-0

Slippery Rock shutout Seton Hill, 3-0, Wednesday in PSAC play at Dick’s Sporting Goods Field to improve to 9-5 on the season.

GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University field hockey team shutout Seton Hill, 3-0, Wednesday in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play at Dick's Sporting Goods Field.

The win improved Slippery Rock's record to 9-5 overall and 4-2 in PSAC play. The loss dropped Seton Hill's record to 3-10 overall and 0-5 in PSAC play. The matchup marked the second time this season the two teams have met, with Slippery Rock winning the first contest, 4-0.

Slippery Rock received two goals from Kayla Ulrich and one score from Hannah Downing. Brittany Morgan and Hannah Simone also added one assist each in the win.

Eight players recorded shots for The Rock. Ulrich led the team with three, followed by Morgan and Liz Wolfe with two each. Downing, Allison Grant, Kayla Mack, Courtney Page and Rachel Ivins all added one shot apiece.

Goalkeepers Nicole Bream and Maddie Murphy split time at net for SRU. Bream started the game, recording two saves during first half action. Murphy subbed in for the second half and did not face a shot in her 35 minutes of play.

Ulrich put The Rock on the board in the 17th minute, making it 1-0, after scoring off a Morgan assist. Ulrich then added her second goal of the day at the 28:13 mark, scoring off a Simone assist. In the second half of action, Downing scored a penalty stroke goal in the 62nd minute to give Slippery Rock a 3-0 lead and the eventual victory.

Seton Hill also deployed different goalkeepers for each half of play. Jane Eberhardt started the game, allowing two goals while recording two saves in first half action. Alexandra Piekarz subbed in for the second half, allowing one goal and recording one save during her 35 minutes of play.

For the game, Slippery Rock led Seton Hill in shots (12-3) and shots on goal (6-2), while being tied in penalty corners (7-7).

Up next, The Rock will hit the road for a PSAC matchup against Bloomsburg 12 p.m. Saturday at Steph Pettit Stadium.
