Rock posts 4-0 shutout vs. Seton Hill

Slippery Rock recorded a 4-0 shutout of Seton Hill at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium on Tuesday.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University field hockey team recorded a 4-0 shutout victory against Seton Hill University at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium on Tuesday for its first home win in 2016.

The win improves The Rock's record to 2-1 on the year while Seton Hill drops to 0-3 with the loss. Slippery Rock has now won nine straight games against the Griffins. Both of Slippery Rock's wins this year have been shutouts.

Junior Torri Rose, senior Renee Rosenblum and sophomore Hannah Simone earned their first goals of the season while senior Megan McKay collected her second goal of 2016. McKay also tallied eight shots on goal.

Junior goalkeeper Nicole Bream made four saves and earned her second shutout on the year as well as her second win.

After twenty minutes of play, Rose was able to play a rebound off of a defensive save by Seton Hill's Kayla Chapman to give The Rock a lead midway through the first half. Rose's goal would be the only score of the period and The Rock took a 1-0 advantage into the break.

Just under five minutes into the second half, Rosenblum scored on a goal assisted by junior Kailee Krupski. The assist was Krupski's first of the season. She also had two shots on goal.

Freshman Brenna McGovern-Lind played a pass into McKay in the middle of the SHU zone 19 minutes later and McKay promptly beat Griffin goalie Jane Eberhardt to increase the SRU advantage to 3-0. For McKay, it was her 24th career goal, which puts her within one goal of tying Marlene Hall (1985-88) for the SRU record for goals scored in a career.

Simone rounded out the scoring with the final goal of the game with just under two minutes to play in regulation when her shot was deflected in by a Griffin defender.

The Rock has seen some diversity thus far this season from its goal scorers as SRU has received goals from six different players through the first three games in 2016. Slippery Rock had just eight different players score goals all of last season.

For the game, Slippery Rock held advantages over Seton Hill in shots on goal (13-4) and penalty corners (14-5).

SRU will head back on the road to play at Kutztown University on Saturday, Sept. 10th at 12 p.m.
