MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University field hockey team fell to fourth-ranked Millersville University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play on Wednesday afternoon, 1-0.

The Rock gave a great defensive effort holding a high-powered Millersville offense that ranks fifth in the PSAC in goals per game (2.375) to just one goal.
Slippery Rock had its chances in the second period, but Millersville was able to clear a pair of Rock corners. Freshman
Hannah Shirk recorded a shot, but it went off target. Shirk's shot was SRU's only attempt of the afternoon.

Nicole Bream recorded five saves while facing six shots.

Millersville scored at 22:39 in the first period on a goal from Margaret Thorwart off of an assist by Kathleen Bishop, which put MU up 1-0.

Slippery Rock had an opportunity to tie the game up in the 24th minute during a penalty corner, but Millersville quickly cleared the ball away.

The Marauders recorded four more shots before the end of the period, but eventually took its 1-0 lead into the break.

The Rock's best chances against Millersville occurred off of penalty corners in the 45th and 56th minutes, but the Marauders were able to clear the attempts to maintain its one-goal lead. Shirk did fire her shot with two minutes to play in regulation, but it missed high.

Millersville was able to hold off The Rock's final charge en route to its 1-0 victory.

The loss drops Slippery Rock to 3-6 overall and 0-2 in PSAC play, while Millersville improves to 7-1 on the season and 2-0 in league games.

SRU is returns home to face eighth-ranked Kutztown University at 1 p.m. Saturday at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
