Tletski scores twice, Rock beats Gannon 3-1

Slippery Rock extended its winning streak to three games with a 3-1 victory over Gannon Tuesday afternoon in PSAC play at James Egli Field.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's soccer team extended its winning streak to three games with a 3-1 victory over Gannon University Tuesday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play at James Egli Field.

The win improves The Rock's record to 5-4 overall, but more importantly 5-2 in PSAC play. Gannon falls to 3-3-1 overall and 3-3-0 in conference matches with the loss.

Maddy Tletski scored two goals Tuesday en route to the victory. The two-goal day was Tletski's second such of the season. She now has a team-best four goals this year. Tess Keeley also produced her first goal of the season in the win.

A week after scoring her first goal of the season, a game-winner against Mercyhurst on Sept. 20, Tyler Spence assisted on two goals. Fellow freshman Madison Johnson recorded an assist against the Golden Knights as well for the first point of her collegiate career.

Goalkeeper Kylie Downs saved four shots in the win. Downs is now 4-2 with a .826 save percentage and a 0.61 goals against average in 2016.

Slippery Rock controlled possession early and attacked the Gannon zone with six shots over the opening 30 minutes of play, but it would be the Golden Knights that would ultimately strike first when Taylor Lewis weaved through The Rock's defense and placed a shot by Downs at 33:37.

However, Gannon's lead would be short-lived as Tletski wasted little time tying the contest less than five minutes later when she received Spence's pass and powered home her third goal of the season to make it a 1-1 game.

The Rock continued to pressure Gannon and once again broke through the Golden Knights' defense when Tletski came away with yet another goal with just 16 seconds remaining in the opening half to send The Rock into the break leading 2-1. Johnson assisted on the goal.

Gannon took four shots in the opening 13 minutes of the second half, but was unable to find the back of the net. Slippery Rock put any thoughts of GU comeback to rest when Keeley finished another Spence pass in the 63rd minute, giving The Rock a commanding two-goal lead.

Gannon could only manage one more shot, an attempt by Britney Barry that was stopped by Downs, over the final 27 minutes of regulation as The Rock cruised to the win.

Slippery Rock has now held opponents to one goal or less in eight consecutive games.

Tletski's two shots on goal were a team-high. Keeley, Andrea Felix and Skye Kramer all registered shots on goal as well. For the game, Slippery Rock held advantages over Gannon in total shots (17-13). Both teams posted five shots on goal.

Slippery Rock will look to maintain its winning streak 1 p.m. Saturday at Bloomsburg University.
