WEST CHESTER, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University field hockey team lost its first Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference game to tenth-ranked West Chester University, 4-2, Saturday afternoon.

Senior
Megan McKay led the scoring charge for Slippery Rock with two goals. McKay's goals were her fifth and sixth for 2016. McKay accounted for four of Slippery Rock's five shots on goal Saturday with
Renee Rosenblum taking the other.
Junior
Kailee Krupski assisted McKay on one of the goals. It was Krupski's second assist on the season.

Defensively, sophomore
Liz Wolfe and junior
Kayla Mack each recorded defensive saves. It was Wolfe's second defensive save and the first for Mack for 2016.

Junior goalkeeper
Nicole Bream recorded 10 saves on 16 shots faced. Bream has now stopped 10 or more shots in a game three times this season.

West Chester scored first in the 26th minute on a goal from Kaitlin Hatch on tip-in shot from Maya Gulliksen during a penalty corner.

The Golden Rams scored again in the 41st minute with a goal from Marnie Kusakavitch on a centering pass from Rachal Toppi to pull ahead 2-0.

The Rock broke through just five minutes later on a goal from McKay as she dribbled in for the shot. The goal made the score 2-1 in favor of West Chester.

Toppi then scored her second goal of the day at 48:44 on a tipped pass from Gulliksen, which put the Golden Rams up 3-1.

McKay made it a one-goal game at 3-2 with a goal in the 53rd minute off of a pass from Krupski.

However, West Chester ended any thoughts of a Rock comeback when Hatch knocked in her third goal of the season to give West Chester its 4-2 lead. Rosenblum and McKay both registered shots on goal in the final minutes of the game, but both attempts were stopped by WCU goalkeeper Sarah Krause en route to the win.

For the game, West Chester held advantages in shots on goal (16-5) and penalty corners (12-3).

Slippery Rock drops to 3-5 overall and 0-1 in PSAC play while West Chester improves to 4-4 and 1-0 in league play.

SRU's next matchup will be a PSAC game at No. 4 Millersville University 4 p.m. Sept. 28th.
