Rock blanked by #3 Bloomsburg, 3-0

Slippery Rock was shutout by No. 3 Bloomsburg on Tuesday afternoon, 3-0.

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University field hockey team dropped a 3-0 game on the road at third-ranked Bloomsburg University Tuesday afternoon.

The loss drops Slippery Rock's record to 3-4, while Bloomsburg improves to 6-2.

SRU held advantages in shots (5-3) and shots on goal (4-2) at the end of the first half, but could not keep the momentum and unfortunately would not fire a shot in the second period. BU recorded eight shots and six shots on goal to hold the advantages at the end of the game for shots (11-5) and shots on target (9-4).

The Rock had opportunities as they held advantages in penalty corners (8-7), but ultimately came up empty. Sophomore Hannah Downing led Slippery Rock with three total shots Tuesday, two of which were on goal. Senior Megan McKay and sophomore Allison Grant tallied one shot apiece as well.

Junior goalkeeper Nicole Bream faced 11 shots, making six saves. Bream has had at least five saves in four of The Rock's seven games in 2016.

Bloomsburg scored early in the ninth minute on a goal played off a rebound by Erica Krebs. It would be the only score for either team in the first period as Bloomsburg took a 1-0 lead into the break.

Coming out of intermission Bloomsburg added a pair of insurance goals via an Abby Sauder score off of a pass to center from MacKenna Mahan at 49:42 and an Annie Klinger goal in the 63rd minute off a pass from the left side of the circle from Stephanie Halsted to secure the victory.

Slippery Rock looks to get back to its winning ways at 1 p.m. Saturday when it begins Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference play at No. 9 West Chester University.
