#11 Rock rolls by Lock Haven, 59-23

No. 11 Slippery Rock scored 31 first half points and cruised to a 59-23 win at Lock Haven Saturday in PSAC crossover action.

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The 11th ranked Slippery Rock University football team scored 31 first half points and rolled to a 59-23 victory on the road at Lock Haven University Saturday.
 
Slippery Rock is 3-0 to begin the year for the third straight season, while Lock Haven drops to 0-3 with the loss.  
 
The Rock's offense moved the ball up and down the field all afternoon, racking up 648 yards on 111 plays, including 442 through the air and 206 on the ground. The first team defense pitched a shutout through three quarters before taking a seat for the fourth. Lock Haven was able to get on the board in the fourth quarter against the second and third string defense, compiling 218 yards and all its points in the final 15 minutes.
 
Slippery Rock held Lock Haven to just 312 yards of total offense, including 308 through the air and just four on the ground. Lock Haven entered the game with the nation's second best passing offense, averaging 407 passing yards per game. Most of the Bald Eagles offensive yards, 218, came after the starting SRU defense was pulled from the game.
 
The offense was paced by quarterback Don King III, who completed 33-of-49 passes (67.3 percent) for 411 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions. King III also rushed for 46 yards on nine carries to account for 457 yards of total offense. True freshman Nathaniel Musselman piloted the offense in the fourth quarter, completing 3-of-4 passes for 31 yards and leading two TD drives.
 
Cornelius Raye was the primary target, pulling down 11 receptions for 174 yards and two touchdowns. Drew Scales caught four passes for 55 yards and one score. Taishan Tucker, Marcus Johnson and Carnel Harley all caught four passes. Andrew Bridgeforth and Leroy McClain each pulled down two passes. A total of 11 players caught at least one pass and 10 of those players registered at least 10 receiving yards.
 
Shamar Greene rushed for 53 yards and two touchdowns before being shut down early in the third quarter. Isiah Neely rushed for 49 yards and two touchdowns. Dominic Dingle ran for 36 yards and Dontez Rash rushed for 30 yards and his first career touchdown.
 
A total of 17 Rock defenders recorded at least two tackles, led by Kyle Hall with five stops. Cody Conway recorded three tackles, including one for loss, and Rahdezz Henderson and Levar Ware each recorded one sack.

The starting secondary of Alfon Cook, Titus Howard, Derrick Fulmore and Kevin Green, along with pressure from Conway, Marcus Martin, Mike Kope and Joe Phillips, limited the nation's second ranked passing offense to just 94 total yards through three quarters before the backups entered the game.
 
Lock Haven was led by Caleb Walton, who completed 21-of-45 passes for 268 yards with one touchdown. Shawn Seif was the top target, catching 11 passes for 183 yards and one score.  No running backs went for more than nine total rushing yards for the Bald Eagles.
 
Saturday's game was the 25th straight win for Slippery Rock in the series with Lock Haven. The Rock are now 32-0-1 in the last 33 meetings in the series with the last LHU win coming in 1980.
 
Slippery Rock will return home next Saturday to host Gannon (3-0) in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division opener for each team. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m.
 
 
NOTES: Shawn Lutz is 3-0 in his first season as head coach … SRU won its 25th straight game over Lock Haven and is 32-0-1 in the last 33 meetings in the series … Shamar Greene rushed for two touchdowns, bringing his career total to 34 rushing scores … he was held to 53 rushing yards, his lowest single-game total since the final game of the 2014 season … Greene increased his SRU career rushing record to 4,086 yards … Don King III passed for a career-high 411 yards, topping his total from the first two games combined … Cornelius Raye's 11 catches and 174 yards were both career highs … the 411 passing yards from King III is the first 400+ yard game for an SRU passer since Dante Nania's 414 yards against Seton Hill last year … the 174 yards receiving are the most for an SRU receiver since John Schademan's 175 against Mercyhurst in 2013.
