Rock swept at Seton Hill

Slippery Rock lost a pair of games on the road to Seton Hill Saturday afternoon in PSAC West play.

GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University baseball team lost a pair of games on the road to Seton Hill University Saturday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division play.

The Rock (9-34, 4-18 PSAC West) and Seton Hill (33-11, 16-6 PSAC West) were tied heading into the bottom of fifth inning of game one before the Griffins closed out the game with seven runs over the following two innings to earn a 10-3 victory. Slippery Rock could not hold on to a three-run lead in game two as Seton Hill rallied to record a 10-7 victory.

Ty Zimmerman and Tyler Walters led slippery Rock Saturday. Zimmerman launched solo home runs in both games while Walters produced matching 3-for-4 performances for a six-hit afternoon. Zimmerman now has seven home runs on the season while Walters' big day pushed his batting average up to .432.

GAME ONE: Seton Hill 10 – Slippery Rock 3
Seton Hill hit solo home runs in each of the first two innings in took a 2-0 lead on The Rock into the fourth inning where Slippery Rock would even the score thanks to an RBI-double by Alex Bell that plated Walters, who led off the inning with a single, and a Seton Hill fielding error later in the inning that allowed by Bell to score.

The Griffins and The Rock proceeded to trade runs over the next two half innings by way of solo home runs by SHU's Zack Heide in the bottom of the fourth and Zimmerman in the top of the fifth.

Seton Hill went on to score seven runs over the final three innings while SRU was held scoreless in the sixth and seventh innings by Seton Hill starter Perry DellaValle en route to the 10-3 Seton Hill win. James Divosevic and Preston Falascino led off the sixth inning with back-to-back singles, but DellaValle got out of the jam by striking out Matt Mandes and forcing Logan Brown to ground into an inning-ending double play.

Walters finished game one 3-for-4 with one double. Alex Bell also had a pair of doubles in what ended up being a 2-for-4, one-run, one-RBI game. In addition to his single, Falascino also registered the only walk of the game for SRU.

Jon Anderson gave up 10 runs on nine hits and two walks in five innings of work. Andrew Null threw a scoreless sixth inning out of the bullpen for The Rock.

GAME TWO: Seton Hill 10 – Slippery Rock 7
Slippery Rock jumped out to a 3-0 lead on the Griffins to begin game two via a solo home run by Frankie Jezioro in the first inning to go with a two-run fourth inning that saw Ray Scala hit an RBI-single before eventually scoring himself off of a Seton Hill error. Jezioro's home run was his sixth of the season.

However, the lead would not last as Seton Hill tallied five runs in the fourth inning and four more in the fifth to open up a 9-3 advantage. SRU chipped away at the deficit with another solo home run by Zimmerman in the sixth as well as a three-run blast by Joe Campagna in the seventh, but it wasn't enough as SHU, which scored an additional run in the bottom of the sixth, held on for a 10-3 win.

Walters once again went 3-for-4 with a double to go with the home runs by Zimmerman, Jezioro and Campagna, who now has five hits and five RBI in his last four games played.

Alex Pantuso did not allow a hit until the fourth inning in the losing effort. He finished the game being charged with eight runs on nine hits and two walks. Stephen McKee pitched the final 1.2 innings in relief of Pantuso, giving up two runs on four hits.

Slippery Rock will look to earn the series split with two wins of its own when it hosts Seton Hill for a doubleheader Sunday at Jack Critchfield Park. First pitch of game one is set for 1 p.m.
