SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.- The Slippery Rock University softball team split with Seton Hill University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division action on Saturday afternoon at the SRU Softball Complex.
The Rock bounced back from a 7-1 loss in Game One with a 1-0 shutout of the Griffins later in the afternoon.
With the split, Slippery Rock improves to 10-13 overall and 1-3 in the PSAC-West. Seton Hill goes to 10-14 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
Senior
Katie Kaiser led The Rock's offense on Saturday with three hits and one run, while senior
Ashley Samluk had one hit and two RBI.
Game One: Seton Hill 7, Slippery Rock 1Samluk hit her first RBI of the day in the first inning of Game One, when she scored Kaiser on a sacrifice fly out to right field. That would be The Rock's lone run of the game.
Seton Hill scored a run in the top of the next inning and one more in the third to take a 2-1 lead over The Rock. The Griffins then put together a big fifth inning that saw five hits and four runs. They scored another run in the top of the sixth and held The Rock to just two hits throughout the game to earn the 7-1 win.
Junior
Carly DeRose (4-4) took the loss after pitching 4.2 innings. She struck out five, but allowed five runs (two earned).
Sophomore
Paige Flore came in for relief and pitched 2.1 innings. She struck out one and allowed two SHU runs.
Game Two: Slippery Rock 1, Seton Hill 0Neither team was able to score in Game Two until Samluk broke the 0-0 tie with another sacrifice fly in the fifth inning that scored senior
Megan Maloney from third base.
Sophomore
Brooke Dawson (3-6) tossed the first career shutout of her career to earn the win. She struck out six batters in a great showing, just one off her career-high.
