MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.- The Slippery Rock University softball team wrapped up Day 2 of the Snowbird Freeze Out with a pair of wins Saturday afternoon in Myrtle Beach, S.C.
The Rock (4-1) started the day with a 1-0 win over Le Moyne College before earning a 4-1 victory against Mansfield University.
GAME 1: Slippery Rock 1 – Le Moyne 0Caitlin Baxter led The Rock in the first game with an RBI single.
Katie Kaiser,
Emily Nagle,
Lauren Hawley and
Megan Maloney all collected one hit apiece.
The game was held scoreless until the bottom of the sixth inning when The Rock went up one run on Baxter's single to shortstop that scored Nagle.
Carly DeRose earned the win for SRU. She fanned eight and allowed just four hits to improve to 2-0 on the year.
GAME 2: Slippery Rock 4 – Mansfield 1Megan Garland,
Stacey Herzog, Nagle and Maloney all recorded individual hits in Game 2.
Slippery Rock scored the first runs of the second game in the bottom of the third inning. Maloney hit an RBI single down the right field line to score Garland, who got on base with a single down the right side.
Ashley Samluk registered an RBI to score Kaiser and give The Rock a two-run lead over the Mounties.
SRU scored two more runs in the bottom of the fourth when
Allie Fischer singled through the left side to score Herzog. Nagle reached base on a throwing error and scored on a wild pitch to make the score 4-0.
Mansfield recorded two hits and scored one run in the top of the sixth inning to bring the final score to 4-1.
Brooke Dawson (2-1) picked up her second win of the season as she struck out six for The Rock.
The Rock will be back in action on March 3 and play 12 games over spring break in Clermont, Florida.
