Rock wins PSAC game at Seton Hill, 3-1

Slippery Rock registered its second conference victory at Seton Hill, 3-1.

GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University field hockey team recorded its second Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference victory against Seton Hill Wednesday afternoon, 3-1.

The win improves Slippery Rock's record to 5-8 overall and 2-4 in the PSAC while Seton Hill drops to 2-11 on the season and 0-5 in league play. 

Slippery Rock senior Megan McKay tallied two goals and an assist while freshman Hannah Shirk recorded a goal. For McKay, it was her eighth and ninth goals on the season and it was the second goal of 2016 for Shirk. Freshman Madison Krajewski also tallied an assist.
 
The Rock registered 12 total shots on goal. McKay was the team leader in the category with five while Shirk, Krajewski, senior Renee Rosenblum, senior Kailee Krupski, junior Haylee Underwood, sophomore Allison Grant, and sophomore Hannah Downing all recorded one shot on goal apiece.
 
Junior goalkeeper Nicole Bream registered two saves on three shots faced.
 
SRU struck first at 18:11 when McKay found the cage after a pass by Krajewski. It was McKay's eighth goal on the season and Krajewski's first assist of 2016.
 
The Griffins tied the game just over a minute later when Molly Childress found the back of the cage off a pass from Alesha Herman.
 
Slippery Rock then took the lead again at 24:20 when Shirk played a rebound from McKay into the goal and put SRU up, 2-1. It was McKay's third assist on the season and 14th for her career which ties her for first all-time in career assists at SRU with Allie Hartman (2007-10). McKay is already The Rock's all-time leader in total points and goals.
 
The Rock would not score again until the second half at 62:22 when McKay recorded a penalty stroke goal and put SRU's lead at 3-1 en route to the victory.
 
For the game, SRU held advantages in shots (19-8), shots on goal (12-3) and penalty corners (5-4).
 
Slippery Rock is back in action in a non-conference game at home against Indiana (Pa.) 1 p.m. Saturday at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
