Rock fall to No. 7 Bloomsburg, 3-1

The Slippery Rock field hockey team fell to No. 7 Bloomsburg, 3-1, in the PSAC-opener Wednesday afternoon.

BLOOMSBURG, Pa.- The Slippery Rock University field hockey team lost to No. 7 Bloomsburg in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference opener Wednesday afternoon, 3-1.

The Rock drop to 3-5 overall and 0-1 in conference play. The 7th-ranked Huskies improve to 5-2 overall and open the conference portion of the schedule with a victory.

SRU scored just 2:34 into the game to take an early 1-0 lead over the hosts, but Bloomsburg fought back to it up in the 23rd minute. The game remained tied at 1-1 until the end of regulation when Huskies put together back-to-back goals in the final four minutes to secure the win.

Sophomore Kayla Mack recorded her first goal of the season off a deflected pass from senior Courtney Bradshaw to put The Rock up early in the game.

Stephanie Halsted collected a deflected shot off the post from Peyton Shockley to tie things up 1-1 heading into halftime.

Eleanor Kirby scored in the 67th minute on an assist from Geneka Mahan to give the hosts a one-goal lead in the final minutes of the contest.

The Huskies scored again off a penalty corner as time ran out when Whitney Kowski capitalized on a scrum in the middle of the box. Teammate Sally DeLuca was credited with the assist.

Senior goalkeeper Carlee DuMars is tagged with the loss after recorded 11 saves and allowing three goals.

Bloomsburg edged SRU in total shots (16-4) and penalty corners (11-4).

SRU hosts Millersville Saturday at 1 p.m. at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
