Box Score (HTML)SHIPPENSBURG, Pa.- The Slippery Rock University field hockey team suffered a 5-0 setback to No. 2 Shippensburg University Tuesday afternoon at the Robb Sports Complex.
The Rock (2-3) were led by junior
Megan McKay with four shots on goal. Sophomore
Kailee Krupski and freshmen
Hannah Downing and
Sam Geroski each had one shot on target.
The Raiders (4-1) got out to a 2-0 halftime lead over The Rock on goals scored by Morgan Gantz and Ari Saytar.
Emily Barnard scored on a pass from Kylie Huffman 16 minutes into the second half to extend Shippensburg's lead to 3-0. Barnard tallied another goal, her sixth of the year, just over two minutes later on a quick pass from Brooke Zeiders. Zeiders scored a goal of her own in the 51st minute to make it 5-0, this time on a pass from Barnard that would cap the scoring.
Shippensburg posted advantages in total shots (31-8) and penalty corners (15-3).
Senior goalie
Carlee DuMars took the loss for The Rock after registering 13 saves.
Taylor Webster earned the win for the Raiders after recording six saves in just under 63 minutes of action. Catherine Matuszko played in the cage during the final minutes of the game, but did not face any shots.
Slippery Rock returns home to host No. 4 East Stroudsburg Saturday at 12 p.m. at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.Â
