SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.- The Slippery Rock University field hockey team earned its second straight victory Thursday in a 4-0 shutout against Mansfield at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
Junior Megan McKay led The Rock (2-1) with two goals in the first half. Sophomores Alyssa Castle and Kailee Krupski each had one goal apiece in the win.
Junior Michelle Couch was credited with assists on both of McKay's goals.
Slippery Rock outshot Mansfield 24-5 and held a 6-4 edge in penalty corners.
McKay put The Rock on the board in the 9th minute when she scored on a put-back shot attempt by Couch.
McKay extended SRU's lead in the 23rd minute when she took a breakaway pass from Couch to give the hosts a 2-0 halftime lead.
In the second half, Castle scored her second goal of the season on a crossing pass from freshman Megan Kane on the right side in the 42nd minute.
In the final minute of the game, Krupski recorded her third goal of the season when she got a stick on a loose ball in front of the cage.
Senior Carlee DuMars earned her second win in goal this season as she made three saves in the victory. Freshman Liz Wolfe was also credited with a defensive save.
Mansfield's goalie Laura Lawson made 12 saves in the loss for her team.
Slippery Rock will be back in action on Saturday at West Chester at 1 p.m.
