Traditional Box Score (HTML)ERIE, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team fought back from a one-goal deficit five times in the second half and closed the game with a 4-0 run to defeat Gannon University 18-15 Thursday night in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action.

The win marks the second straight PSAC win for Slippery Rock and improves the team to 4-5 overall and 2-2 in league action. Gannon drops to 4-6 overall and 1-4 in PSAC games.

The Rock scored the opening goal of the game and jumped out to an 8-5 lead at halftime before Gannon stormed back into the game with six unanswered goals early in the second half to take an 11-9 lead with 19:33 to play.

Slippery Rock scored the next two goals to tied the game at 11-11 and then the teams traded goals back and forth three times before Gannon scored to take a 15-14 lead with 7:10 to play.

It was all Slippery Rock from there, as the visitors tallied the tying goal just 22 seconds later and then scored the go-ahead goal 29 seconds after that with 6:19 to play. The Rock added insurance tallies with 2:09 to play and one final goal with 14 seconds left to earn the win.

It marks the second Slippery Rock victory in the all-time series and the second in a row for The Rock. Gannon won the first seven meetings between the programs.

Slippery Rock finished the game with advantages of 31-30 in shots and 21-14 in draw controls. Gannon posted a 27-22 edge in ground balls and both teams were credited with seven caused turnovers.

The Rock were paced by five goal performances from both
Erin Wilcox and
Paige Costantino, as well as a seven point effort with one goal and six assists from
Kaytlin Callaghan.

Caitlynn Palladino added a hat trick and
Lydia Heishman chipped in two goals and one assist to cap the multiple point scorers.
Chynna Chan and
Jasey Sanders each recorded one goal and
Sarah Morris handed out one assist to round out the scorers.

Jordan Wagner earned the win in goal for SRU after recording 11 saves, including six in the second half.

Gannon was led by Tessa Mitchell with five goals and Leilani King with four goals and three assists.

Alexis Strouse played the full 60 minutes in goal and took the loss after recording eight saves.

Thursday night's game was played in occasional rain and wind gusts of more than 30 miles per hour. That was still better than the situation Tuesday, when the game was originally scheduled to be played, after Gannon's field was covered in three inches of snow and forced the postponement.

Slippery Rock will have little time to recover from Thursday night's late finish as it will travel Friday and stay overnight before playing at No. 19 Bloomsburg at 1 p.m. Saturday.
