Watch Complete GameSLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's lacrosse team opened the home portion of its schedule with a convincing 18-8 victory over Lake Erie College Tuesday evening at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.

The Rock reeled off seven unanswered goals in the opening half and jumped out to an 11-3 lead at the break as the game was never really in doubt.

Slippery Rock improves to 2-2 overall on the year and snaps a two-game skid. Lake Erie drops to 1-2 overall and is now 0-3 all-time against The Rock.

Tuesday's game featured advantages of 31-13 in total shots, 27-10 in shots on goal, 23-19 in ground balls, 17-11 in draw controls and 13-10 in caused turnovers for Slippery Rock.

Paige Costantino led the way with a six-point night on four goals and two assists.
Erin Wilcox added a hat trick with three goals and
Jasey Sanders and
Kaytlin Callaghan each scored two goals and handed out one assist.

The Rock got a pair of goals from
Danni Wilson in the second half, the first two goals of her collegiate career. SRU also got one goal each from
Chynna Chan,
Ally Culhane,
Anna-Marie Warrington and
Bre Vodde. The goals from Culhane and Vodde marked the first goals of their collegiate careers as well.

Vodde's goal came in spectacular fashion after she picked up a ground ball when her initial shot was saved and then scored over the Lake Erie keeper with less than one second to play in the first half.

Jordan Wagner earned her second win of the season in goal for SRU after recording two saves and allowing four goals in the first 43:20. She gave way to
Taylor Balbierz, who appeared in her first collegiate game and allowed four goals in the final 16:40.

Lake Erie was led by three goals from Taylor Izzo and two goals each from Anastasia Crawford and Taylor Mathis.

Kate Holden made nine saves in goal for the Storm.

Slippery Rock opened the scoring in the third minute with a goal from Sanders off a free position shot. Lake Erie answered on the next possession to tie the game with a goal from Mathis with 26:50 to play.

From there, The Rock put together a 7-0 run to break the game open and closed the opening half on a total run of 10-2. Included in those 10 goals was an own goal from Lake Erie when a defender passed the ball back to Holden and into the Storm's own net.

The teams traded goals to open the second half before Slippery Rock put together a 5-0 run to open up a 17-4 lead with 16:40 to play, effectively putting the game out of reach.

Depth became a factor as Lake Erie had just two substitutes in the game and Slippery Rock countered with 14 players seeing time off the bench.

Tuesday's game was the first in a five-game homestand for The Rock, who will welcome Tiffin University Saturday for a 1 p.m. non-conference game.
