Box Score (HTML)SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Indiana University (Pa.) field hockey team scored four goals off penalty corners and came away with a 5-2 victory at Slippery Rock University Friday night in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action from Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
Slippery Rock drops to 5-8 overall and 2-4 in PSAC action with the loss, while Indiana improves to 5-7 overall and 3-4 in league games.
The Rock scored the first goal of the game on their first shot attempt from
Courtney Bradshaw scored far post off an assist from
Megan McKay in the 13th minute.
Indiana tied the game less than three minutes later when Matti Reightler scored the first of the four goals off of corners. The Crimson Hawks took the lead at 2-1 in the 24th minute when Haley Klinger scored her first goal of the year off a deflection on another corner.
Klinger would finish with a hat trick after scoring on two more deflections in front of the net to account for the third and fourth goals off corners. Indiana's fifth goal came on a breakaway from Brittany Thornton.
Slippery Rock tailed 3-1 early in the second period and climbed back into the game with a goal from
Kailee Krupski, also assisted by McKay, but Indiana retook a two-goal lead shortly after and pushed on for the win.
The Crimson Hawks finished the game with advantages of 14-7 in total shots, 11-6 in shots on goal and 10-4 in penalty corners.
Olivia Accardi earned the win in goal after recording four saves.
Carlee DuMars took the loss for SRU after allowing four goals and recording three saves. She was relieved for the final 20 minutes by
Nicole Bream, who allowed one goal and made three saves.
McKay's two assists increased her season point total to 29 on the year, which moved her up to third all-time in Slippery Rock program history. She needs just one point to tie Audrey Davison's 30 points for second in single-season scoring and is just four points shy of tying Lindsay Brown's single-season program record of 33 points set in 2013.
Slippery Rock returns to action at home Tuesday as hosts to Shippensburg University. Game time is set for 4 p.m.
