Box Score (HTML) SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.- A first half goal scored by the No. 4 Shippensburg University field hockey team was enough to earn the 1-0 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference victory over Slippery Rock Tuesday afternoon at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
Slippery Rock's record drops to 5-9 overall and 2-5 in the PSAC with the loss. Shippensburg improves to 9-4 and 4-3 in the conference.
Cassie Rawa chipped a short pass to Katelyn Grazan inside the box to give Shippensburg a 1-0 lead 25:30 into the game.
Shippensburg put up seven shots in the second half, but was unable to capitalize on any of them. Slippery Rock did not register any shots in the second half.
Senior goalkeeper
Carlee DuMars recorded nine saves in the loss for The Rock, while sophomores
Cortlyn Van Deutsch and
Kayla Mack had one defensive save each. Shippensburg goalie Taylor Webster made three saves for her team in the win.
The fourth-ranked Raiders held a 16-4 advantage over The Rock in total shots and an 8-3 advantage in penalty corners. Junior
Megan McKay had three shots for Slippery Rock, while Mack added one.
Slippery Rock will head up to Mercyhurst Friday at 4 p.m. for another PSAC game.
