Traditional Box ScoreLOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team ended its three-game road trip on a down note with a 68-59 loss at Lock Haven University Sunday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference crossover play from Thomas Fieldhouse.
Slippery Rock played Lock Haven close throughout and even led with nine minutes to play in regulation, but ultimately couldn't overcome a second half shooting performance in which SRU made just eight of its 40 field goal attempts. For the game, Slippery Rock shot 31 percent (22-for-71) from the floor, its third lowest outing of the year.
The loss drops The Rock's record back to .500 on the season at 6-6 overall and to 2-6 in league play. LHU improves to 3-8 overall and 3-5 in PSAC games.
Senior forward
D'Asia Chambers just missed out on her seventh double-double of the season after finishing with team-highs of 16 points and nine rebounds. Junior guard
Erica Aiello matched her season-high with five assists in addition to scoring 12 points.
Sophomore guard
Audrey Stapleton continued to give The Rock quality minutes off the bench by totaling season-highs of nine points and four rebounds. Stapleton went 4-for-6 from the field and 1-for-1 from three-point territory in 18 minutes.
Junior forward
Megan Hardiman made her second start of the season and tied for the team lead with nine rebounds to go with eight points in one of her best performances of the year.
After giving up five consecutive points to start the game, Slippery Rock responded by scoring eight of the game's next 10 points to take its first lead of the game four minutes into the contest. Chambers and Aiello both scored three points during the run with Stapleton adding two as well.
The Rock surrendered the lead back to the Bald Eagles when Lock Haven went on a 23-9 spurt over the following 11 minutes to take a 30-19 lead with five minutes remaining in the period.
SRU spent the remainder of the half chipping away at the LHU advantage and eventually cut the lead down to four points (37-33) heading into the break.
The difference in the first half was Lock Haven's uncharacteristic three-point success. LHU, which entered the game with the lowest three-point percentage in the PSAC, went 5-for-11 from distance in the opening 20 minutes.
Both teams struggled offensively coming out of the locker rooms, combining to shoot just 7-for-37 through first 13 minutes of the second half.
Despite the poor offensive showing, Slippery Rock battled back to take just its second lead since the 16-minute mark of the first half when freshman guard
Shannon Jack hit a jumper to put The Rock up 44-43 with 11:17 to play.
However, Slippery Rock proceeded to go cold on offense which allowed Lock Haven to regain the lead thanks to a 12-3 run that put the Bald Eagles ahead 55-47 with five minutes remaining in the period. Lock Haven put any hopes of a Rock comeback to rest by going 11-for-12 from the free throw line in the final 1:30 to secure the win.
For the game, Slippery Rock outrebounded Lock Haven 45-42 and made 71.4 percent (10-for-14) of its free throws. SRU has now held the edge over its opponents in rebounds in eight games this year as well as shooting over 70 percent from the foul line eight times.
Marrysa Moyer led Lock Haven with a double-double of 17 points and 18 rebounds.
Slippery Rock will return home to finish off PSAC crossover play when it hosts Bloomsburg at 5:30 p.m. on Jan. 7 at Morrow Field House.
