MANSFIELD, Pa. – Three different Rock players scored at least 15 points to help the Slippery Rock University women's basketball team snap its three-game losing streak with a 75-65 victory against Mansfield University Saturday afternoon at Decker Gymnasium.

The contest was close throughout, but after trading the lead early on SRU took a 15-13 advantage with 11:04 to play in the first half off of a layup by senior forward Danielle Garroutte and never looked back, leading for the final 31:04 of Saturday's game on the way to a 10-point victory.

The win improves Slippery Rock's record to 6-5 overall and to 2-4 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. The six wins already represent the most in a single-season by SRU in the last three years. Mansfield falls to 1-11 overall and 0-8 in league play with the loss.

For the seventh time this season a Slippery Rock opponent shot under 36 percent from the field as Mansfield connected on only 16 of its 53 shots to finish at 30.2 percent. Conversely, SRU had its finest shooting day of the season by going 26-for-53 (49.1 percent). SRU also held a commanding 46-30 edge in rebounding.

Senior forward D'Asia Chambers gave another dominant effort with game-highs of 25 points and 14 rebounds to go with three steals, one block and a 10-for-17 shooting performance from the field. The double-double was her PSAC-high seventh of the season and her 14 rebounds gives her 588 for her career which is the eighth most in Rock history. Chambers needs 11 more rebounds to tie Erin Frankovich for seventh place all-time.

Junior guard Taylor Siggers added 16 points and a season-high seven rebounds. Siggers, who shot an efficient 7-for-13 from the field, has now scored at least 10 points in three of The Rock's last five games.

Rounding out Slippery Rock's leading scorers was junior guard Erica Aiello, who provided crucial scoring in the game's final minutes to finish with 15 points, two assists and two steals. Aiello was 4-for-7 from the field overall, 2-for-4 from three-point range and 5-for-6 from the foul line.

Garroutte and junior forward Megan Hardiman, who made her first start of the year, aided The Rock's rebounding presence with five each while combining for 11 points. Sophomore guard Audrey Stapleton came off the bench to provide a defensive spark of three steals.

The opening half was a back-and-forth game that featured five ties and three lead changes. Neither team led by more than three points until Slippery Rock shot off on a 7-2 run to open up a 22-16 advantage, its largest lead of the half, with 8:22 remaining in the half. The run was led by a Chambers three-pointer as well as field goals by freshman guard Lindsay Homan and Hardiman.

SRU maintained a two-possession lead for much of the remainder of the first half until Mansfield scored six of the period's final eight points, including a last-second three-pointer by Tamia Jackson, to cut The Rock's lead down to 33-32 at the half.

Offensively, SRU shot 52.2 percent (12-for-23) from the field while limiting Mansfield to just a 27.6 shooting percentage (8-for-29) and owning a 24-14 edge in rebounding in the first 20 minutes of action. However, the Mounties were able to stay in the game thanks in part to converting 13 of 16 free throws and forcing 13 Rock turnovers.

The Rock's first half scoring output was their highest against a PSAC school this season. Eight different players scored for SRU in the opening 20 minutes with Chambers and Siggers leading the way at 12 and eight points, respectively. The duo also grabbed five rebounds each in the first period.

Slippery Rock built its lead to 50-43 nine minutes into the second half, but Mansfield refused to go away and kept itself in the game by trimming The Rock's lead down to one point on three separate occasions.

With Slippery Rock clinging to a 64-63 lead with 2:35 to play, Aiello took over the game's next minute by first sinking a three-pointer and then making a pair of free throws with a Siggers jumper sandwiched between to put SRU up 71-65 with 1:05 to play.

Hardiman proceeded to close the contest out by converting three of four free throws in the final minute en route to the double-digit triumph.

For the game, Slippery Rock shot 74.1 percent (20-for-27) from the foul line.

Mansfield was paced by Katie Fitzpatrick and Brielle Kelly. Fitzpatrick had 16 points and 10 rebounds while Kelly went for 14 points and 10 rebounds.

Slippery Rock will have little time to rest as it will play its second road game in as many days at 1 p.m. on Sunday against Lock Haven.
