SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Slippery Rock University men's basketball senior forward Maurice Lewis-Briggs signed a professional contract Wednesday to play for BBC Black Star Mersch in the top professional league in Luxembourg, the Total League.

Lewis-Briggs becomes the fourth former Slippery Rock player to join a team in the top league in Luxembourg, joining current Total League players Denell Stephens (T-71), Devin Taylor (Etzella) and Darious Clark (Grengewald).

"Our program is always excited when one of our student-athletes is able to achieve his goals at The Rock," said head coach Kevin Reynolds. "Maurice earned an SRU degree in May, helped us win 20 games and earn another postseason berth and now signs a professional basketball contract. As coaches, we are proud of what Mo was able to accomplish with us."

Lewis-Briggs becomes the 12th Slippery Rock player in the last six years to sign a professional basketball contract (complete list below).

Black Star completed the 2014 season with an 18-14 overall record in the Total League, which was won by Stephens' T-71 team. The current roster is made up of mostly Luxembourg-born players, but includes three Americans in Jarvis Williams (Minnesota State Mankato, 2013), Mike Oppland (Valparaiso, 2006) and Derek Wilson (Coastal Carolina, 1989).

Lewis-Briggs played just one season at Slippery Rock, but was amongst the best players in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. He was named to first team All-PSAC honors in the Western Division by the league's head coaches after completing a season in which he averaged 17.4 points and 7.6 rebounds per game.

The 6-foot-8, 240 pound forward from Norritstown, Pa. recorded six double-doubles last winter and scored 20 or more points in 11 games. He registered two games with more than 30 points, including a 31-point outing at Gannon in the second round of the PSAC playoffs and a 32-point output in a win at Cheyney.

Lewis-Briggs finished the year shooting 49.3 percent from the field, connecting on 200-of-406 shot attempts. He was also 21-of-61 from beyond the 3-point arc (34.4 percent), pulled down 235 total rebounds, blocked 10 shots and recorded 21 steals.

Lewis-Briggs will make travel and housing arrangements over the next few weeks before joining his new team in Luxembourg.
