SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University softball team split a pair against Edinboro in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division action from the SRU Softball Complex Wednesday afternoon.

Reigning PSAC-West Pitcher of the Week Emily Lobdell led The Rock to a 3-0 victory in the opener. Lobdell continued her impressive spring, allowing only one hit in a complete game shutout victory.

The Rock's bats were quiet through the first three innings, but awoke in the fourth as five straight batters reached base. Junior outfielder Alaynna Beers pushed across SRU's first run on a single to left, before senior Breanna Tongel scored on a Edinboro error to give Slippery Rock a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth. Sophomore Megan Maloney singled to start the fifth and scored on a Katie Kaiser RBI double down the left field line to push The Rock's lead to 3-0.

Kaiser went 1-for-2 with a RBI, double and walk to lead the offensive attack. Beers went 1-for-2 with a RBI, while Maloney and sophomore Ashley Samluk each went 1-for-3 with a run scored.

The tables were flipped on Slippery Rock in the nightcap, as the Fighting Scots scored a run in each of the first two innings to chase Lobdell out of her second start of the day.

Edinboro added four runs in the third inning and plated two in the sixth as Kalet Lenart shut down the Slippery Rock offense. The Fighting Scots would go on to win 8-0 in six innings.

Maloney, Samluk and Beers each went 1-for-2 to produce The Rock's three hits against Lenart.

Lobdell picked up the loss after allowing three runs (two earned) on five hits in 2.1 innings pitched. Freshman Carly DeRose tossed 3.2 innings in relief and allowed five runs on four hits and five walks, while striking out five.

With the split, Slippery Rock moves to 9-11 overall and 5-3 in the PSAC-West, while Edinboro improves to 8-12 overall and 3-5 in conference action.

Slippery Rock returns to PSAC-West action at Gannon Thursday. The doubleheader from Erie, Pa. is scheduled to get underway at 2:30 p.m.
