SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa.- The Slippery Rock University softball team struggled offensively as it dropped a pair of games at Indiana (Pa.) in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division action Sunday afternoon.

IUP scored a pair of two-out runs in the seventh inning to pick up a 2-1 walk-off victory in Game 1, before the Crimson Hawks cruised to a 7-1 victory in Game 2 to secure the sweep on the Hawks' Senior Day.

In the opener, both offenses scuffled through the first four innings before junior outfielder Alaynna Beers smashed a double to left center and senior first baseman Breanna Tongel ripped a RBI double to break the scoreless game and give The Rock a 1-0 lead in the fifth.

Senior Rock pitcher Emily Lobdell took a shutout into the seventh, but a single and walk with two outs set up Stefanie McCoy's two-RBI double to give IUP the 2-1 walk-off victory.

Freshman Caitlin Baxter went 2-for-2, while Beers went 1-for-3 with a double and run scored and Tongel went 1-for-2 with a double and RBI to account for all four of Slippery Rock's hits. Lobdell had another strong performance on the mound, but was tagged with the loss after allowing two runs on eight hits while striking out three in 6.2 innings.

McCoy went 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs and Jasa Mitchell went 1-for-2 with a double, run scored and a walk to lead the Indiana offense. Alexa Campbell picked up the win for IUP after allowing one run on four hits and five strikeouts in seven innings pitched.

In the nightcap, McCoy smacked a three-run home run to give Indiana a 3-0 lead after the first inning. The Crimson Hawks went quietly in the second before padding their lead in the third inning. Mitchell walked to lead off the inning before Allison Viguers bashed a two-run home run to give IUP a 5-0 lead.

Lobdell hit a pinch-hit solo home run in the top of the fifth to break up Indiana's shutout hopes and give The Rock its only run of the game. Indiana added two more runs in the sixth to pick up the 7-1 victory and secure the two-game sweep.

Beers and Tongel each went 1-for-3 and Lobdell's home run capped the only offense Slippery Rock could manage in Game 2.

Freshman Carly DeRose picked up the loss after allowing five runs on four hits and five walks while striking out five in five innings pitched. Senior Bethany Beutel made an appearance and allowed two runs on two hits and two walks in one inning of relief.

McCoy went 2-for-4 with a home run and five RBIs to pace the Hawk offense. Amanda Spindler picked up the win for the hosts after allowing a run on two hits in six innings.

With the losses, Slippery Rock drops to 16-25 overall and 11-15 in the PSAC-West. The Rock currently sits in fifth place and needs help to secure a playoff berth. Third-place Gannon would have to sweep fourth-place Edinboro Monday and SRU would have to sweep first place and #14 California (Pa.) to leapfrog the Fighting Scots, who sit 1.5 games in front of The Rock with two games remaining.

SRU returns to PSAC-West action in its regular season finale Monday at home against Cal U. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 2:30 p.m. from the SRU Softball Complex.
