Slippery Rock took Game 1 of the doubleheader 10-1 in six innings, before scoring a pair of late runs in Game 2 to win 3-1 and secure the sweep. With the wins, The Rock moves into sole possession of third place in the PSAC-West.
In the opener, sophomore third baseman
Ashley Samluk put The Rock ahead 1-0 with a RBI double to left field in the top of the first. Junior outfielder
Alaynna Beers led off the top of the second with a double down the left field line before senior first baseman
Breanna Tongel followed with a RBI double. Junior
Taylor Welch belted a two-run double to cap the inning and push SRU's lead to 4-0 after two.
Samluk whacked a RBI single in the fifth and after a pair of unearned runs, added a two-RBI single in the sixth to put The Rock up 9-1. Freshman catcher
McKenzie Popatak capped the four-run sixth inning with a RBI single through the left side of the infield to give the visitors a 10-1 lead.
Senior
Emily Lobdell continued her strong spring, allowing a lone run on two hits while striking out six over six innings for the complete game victory.
Samluk went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBIs to pace the Slippery Rock offense, while Beers went 2-for-4 with a pair of doubles and two RBIs. Sophomore outfielder

In the nightcap, sophomore shortstop
Katie Kaiser gave The Rock a 1-0 lead in the first with a RBI single before Lobdell took the mound and picked up right where she left off in Game 1. Despite allowing an unearned run in the bottom of the first, Lobdell held the Fighting Scots scoreless over the final six innings of play.
Tied 1-1 in the top of the sixth, Kaiser belted what would be the game-clinching two-run homer over the left field wall to secure the 3-1 victory and give Slippery Rock the doubleheader sweep.
Lobdell allowed one run (unearned) on two hits, while striking out four in her second complete game victory of the day. Kaiser went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs to provide Slippery Rock with all the offense it would need.
With the wins, The Rock improves to 16-21 overall and 11-11 in conference action. Edinboro drops to 15-20-1 overall and into fourth place at 10-13-1 in conference play.
Slippery Rock returns to PSAC-West action with another important matchup against first place California (Pa.) Saturday. First pitch of the doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m.
