Game 2 Box Score (HTML)GREENSBURG, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University softball team's offense was quiet in a pair of losses at Seton Hill in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Western Division play Friday afternoon.
The hosts recorded a 7-1 win in Friday's opening game before securing the sweep with a 5-2 win in Game 2.
In the opener, The Rock threatened but came up empty after back-to-back strikeouts with two runners in scoring position in the top of the first. The Griffins went quietly in the first before consecutive doubles in the bottom of the second gave Seton Hill a 1-0 lead. After two quick outs, the Griffins knocked their third double of the inning to go up 2-0 after two.

Alaynna Beers smashed a solo blast to make it 4-1 in the fifth. The Griffins padded their lead with a solo blast and two-RBI double with two outs in the bottom of the frame to make the score 7-1 in favor of the hosts. The Rock threatened with a pair of base runners in the sixth and seventh innings, but came up empty and fell 7-1 in Game 1.
Senior
Emily Lobdell struck out three but was tagged for the loss after allowing seven runs on 12 hits in six innings. Beers led the offense with a home run in three at bats, while four other Rock players recorded a hit.
Griffins' pitcher Amanda Huff struck out 15 batters and scattered five hits over seven innings to pick up the victory. Carlee Wickstrom exploded for two home runs and a double in four at bats to produce three runs and three RBIs to pace the Seton Hill offense.
In the nightcap, Christine Henderson gave the Griffins a 1-0 lead on a solo blast in the bottom of the first. Slippery Rock evened the game at 1-1 in the second on a RBI single from senior
Breanna Tongel, before Seton Hill regained the lead at 2-1 on a solo blast in the bottom of the frame. Three straight hits off the Griffins'' bats plated a pair of runs and gave Seton Hill a 4-1 lead after three.
The Rock loaded the bases with no outs in the fourth before Tongel knocked her second RBI single of the game to cut the Griffins' lead to 4-2. Seton Hill added an insurance run in the fifth and hung on to win 5-2 in Game 2.
Sophomore
Ashley Samluk went 2-for-2 with a walk and two runs, while Tongel went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBIs to pace The Rock's offense in the second game.
Freshman
Carly DeRose received the loss after allowing five runs (four earned) on eight hits in six innings pitched.
Huff picked up her second win and complete game of the day after allowing two runs on five hits in seven innings pitched. Henderson paced the Griffins' offense, going 3-for-3 with three runs and a home run.
The losses drop SRU's record to 13-18 overall and an even 9-9 in conference play, while Seton Hill improved to 18-12 and 8-10.
Slippery Rock returns to PSAC-West action Saturday at Clarion. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1 p.m. in Clarion, Pa.
