CLERMONT, Fla. – The Slippery Rock University softball team fell in both opening day games of the Dot Richardson Spring Games Saturday afternoon at Hancock Park.
Trailing 1-0 in the sixth inning of the opener against Minnesota Crookston, Senior
Breanna Tongel delivered a RBI single to tie the game heading into the seventh. The Golden Eagles put two runners on before Ashley Manusos sent a pitch over the wall for a game-clinching three-run homerun.
Sophomore
Katie Kaiser went one for three and scored SRU's lone run, while Junior
Alaynna Beers knocked a pair of singles in three at bats. Tongel went one for three with a RBI.
Senior
Emily Lobdell received the no decision after allowing a run on five hits in five innings pitched. Sophomore
Stacey Herzog was saddled with the loss after allowing three runs on four hits in two innings.
Paige Schaust picked up the win for Minnesota Crookston, surrendering just one run on six hits. Schaust walked a pair and recorded seven strikeouts.
In the nightcap, The Rock was shutout in an 8-0 loss to the University of Sioux Falls (S.D.). The Cougars capitalized on a pair of big innings to notch the win in six innings.

McKenzie Popatak produced The Rock's lone hit in the game.
Freshman
Carly DeRose received the loss after allowing six runs on eight hits in five and a third innings pitched. DeRose struck out 10 and walked three. Freshman
Sarah Petrash made an appearance in relief and surrendered two runs in a third of an inning.
Amanda Walters allowed just one hit and struck out 11 in six innings to pick up the win for Sioux Falls.
With the losses, Slippery Rock drops to 2-5 on the season. Minnesota Crookston improved to 1-4 with the win, while Sioux Falls improved to 6-3 on the season.
The Rock returns to action in day two of the Dot Richardson Spring Games Sunday in a 5:00 p.m. matchup with Minot State University.
