Rock downs Penn State Allegheny 65-24

The Slippery Rock University women’s basketball team used a historic defensive effort to snap its two-game losing streak and defeat Penn State Allegheny 65-24 in non-conference play Monday night at Morrow Field House.

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University women's basketball team used a historic defensive effort to snap its two-game losing streak and defeat Penn State Allegheny 65-24 in non-conference play Monday night at Morrow Field House.
 
The 24 points allowed were the fewest in school history while PSU Allegheny's 12.0 field goal percentage (6-for-50) was the lowest shot against The Rock on record. Slippery Rock also forced 20 turnovers Monday, marking the third time in four games this season that SRU's opponents have committed at least 20 miscues.
 
Slippery Rock's 41-point win was its largest margin of victory since it defeated Salem International 111-39 on Dec. 4, 2008.
 
With the win, Slippery Rock evens its record to 2-2 overall on the season. The Lions dropped to 3-5 with the loss.
 
Slippery Rock jumped out to a 23-3 lead through the game's opening 10 minutes and never looked back. SRU led by 31 points at halftime at 41-10 and would eventually extend its lead out to as many as 44 points late in the second period en route to the 65-24 triumph.
 
Junior guard Taylor Siggers led the way with a team-high 21 points and six steals in a game that saw 15 Rock players record playing time. Siggers went 7-for-9 from the field and 6-for-7 from the foul line while also grabbing three rebounds and passing out four assists in 19 minutes.
 
Senior forward D'Asia Chambers tallied nine points and seven rebounds in 14 minutes. Fellow starter junior guard Erica Aiello chipped in seven points, seven rebounds and four assists as well.
 
Junior forward Megan Hardiman led the reserves with six points and three rebounds off the bench. Senior guard Bridget McClure added four points and a career-high five rebounds.
 
Slippery Rock held advantages over Penn State Allegheny in rebounds (52-40), blocks (7-5), steals (15-2), points off turnovers (25-2) and points in the paint (24-4).
 
Mandi Johnston scored seven points and Christina Floyd had 16 rebounds for the Lions in the loss.
 
Slippery Rock continues its seven-game homestand Tuesday night when it hosts Penn State Fayette at 6 p.m.
