GREENSBURG, Pa. - The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team held advantages over Seton Hill University in both total shots and shots on goal, but the Griffins managed to defeat The Rock 1-0 Wednesday afternoon at Dicks Field.

The defeat snaps Slippery Rock's three-game winning streak and drops its record to 6-4-0 overall and 3-2-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. The Griffins improve to 5-4-1 overall and 2-2-0 on the year in league play.

For the game, Slippery Rock edged Seton Hill in total shots (14-5), shots on goal (3-1) and corner kicks (5-3), but was unable to overcome Sean Ripley's goal in the 32nd minute of the first half.

Stephen Donnelly paced The Rock's attack with a game-high four shots. Josh Brake and Mike Ilodigwe tallied three shots each as well. Mike Pcholinsky chipped in two shots of his own with Dom Francis and Brandon Chiu both adding one shot apiece.

Slippery Rock rattled off five shots in the opening 25 minutes of play, but came up empty while Seton Hill made the most of its limited opportunities when Joe Tchimou played a ball into Ripley, who fired a shot from the top left of the box that beat Rock goalkeeper Steven Rerick at the 31:24 mark in the first half.

SRU countered with two more shots over the final 14 minutes of the opening half, but an Ilodigwe shot would be blocked and a Brake header sailed wide to give Seton Hill the one-goal edge at the break.

The Rock continued to be the aggressors in the second half, but Seton Hill was able to withstand six Rock shots, including an attempt by Chiu that was blocked in the game's closing seconds, to hold onto the narrow victory.

Seton Hill goalkeeper Cameron Evans saved three shots in the victory.

Slippery Rock looks to return to its winning ways when it plays at Cedarville University in what will be SRU's final non-conference game of 2014 Saturday at 7 p.m.
