EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – The Slippery Rock University men's soccer team clinched a berth into the upcoming Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Tournament with a 2-1 victory against East Stroudsburg Friday afternoon at Eiler-Martin Stadium.

The victory ensures that The Rock will finish with no fewer than 16.67 conference points, a total that none of the seven teams below them in the conference standings can end the year with. East Stroudsburg drops to 5-11-1 overall and to 3-7 in league games.

Slippery Rock enters its final regular season game of the season with an overall record of 10-6 and a 6-4 mark in PSAC games. SRU has now won at least 10 games in a season six times in the last seven years and has qualified for the PSAC Tournament three consecutive seasons.

Brandon Chiu and
Stephen Donnelly both scored goals in the victory to lead the Slippery Rock offensive attack while goalkeeper
Steven Rerick stopped a career-high nine shots in a solid Rock defensive effort.

Donnelly's goal was his team-high 10
th of the season. The score was also the 26
th of his career, the 10
th most in Slippery Rock history. In addition to the goal, Donnelly finished the contest with a match-high seven shots.
Peter Boylan added two shots on goal for Slippery Rock.

Chiu got Slippery Rock off to a quick start when he scored what was his first goal of the season just two minutes into the contest. Slippery Rock maintained its 1-0 lead into the opening moments of the second half when ESU's Otavio Caproni evened the contest at 1-1 on his third goal of the year.

However, Slippery Rock denied the Warriors a chance of a comeback victory when Donnelly took advantage of an ESU defensive miscue to net SRU's second goal of the game, and his third game-winning score of the year, in the 50
th minute of competition.

Slippery Rock closed the game out by successfully defending 10 East Stroudsburg shots over the final 40 minutes of play en route to the victory.

Saturday was the 10
th time this season that Slippery Rock held its opponent to one goal or less.
Slippery Rock held team advantages over East Stroudsburg in total shots (21-16) and corner kicks (4-2) with the Warriors besting The Rock in shots on goal (10-6).

Caproni put three shots on target including his goal to pace East Stroudsburg.

Slippery Rock will have less than 24 hours of recovery time before it faces West Chester on Saturday at 2:30 p.m.
