ERIE, Pa. – Caitlin Binder scored a pair of goals and Annabelle Hegeman registered her sixth shutout of the season to lead the 24th ranked Slippery Rock University women's soccer team to a 4-0 victory at Mercyhurst University Saturday afternoon.

The win, Slippery Rock fifth straight, improves The Rock's record to 8-2-1 on the season overall and 7-2-1 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. Mercyhurst falls to 3-8-1 overall and 2-8-1 in league play.

Slippery Rock's stellar defense has allowed just one goal over its winning streak and SRU has outscored opponents 21-1 during the stretch.

Leading The Rock's offensive efforts against the Lakers was the duo of Binder and Andrea Felix. Binder, who has three goals and two assists in SRU's last two games, scored a pair of goals Saturday while Felix added a goal of her own as well as two assists. Felix exits the weekend ranking first for The Rock on the year in goals (five), assists (eight) and points (18).

Also helping the SRU attack was Dara Demich and Tess Keeley. Demich logged her second goal of 2014 while Keeley assisted on Felix's score. Allison Harbart also tallied two shots on goal for SRU.

Slippery Rock's defense surrendered just three Mercyhurst shots on goal, which were all saved by Hegeman. With the shutout, Hegeman lowers her season goals against average to a scant 0.46 while increasing her save percentage to .902.

Binder started Slippery Rock off strong when she took a pass from Felix in the middle of the Mercyhurst box to beat Laker goalkeeper Ellie McDougall 25:12 into the match for the only goal of the first half.

SRU quickly put the game away early in the second half when Felix and Binder scored goals within seconds of each other in the 53rd minute to give Slippery Rock a commanding 3-0 lead. Demich proceeded to cap the game off by rebounding her own blocked shot and beating the Mercyhurst defense for a final score.

For the game, Slippery Rock held advantages over Mercyhurst in total shots (15-9) and shots on goal (9-3). Mercyhurst edged Slippery Rock in corners, 5-1.

Janine Wong paced the Lakers' attack with a team-high three shots Saturday. McDougall stopped five shots in the losing effort.

Slippery Rock returns home to host Bloomsburg University Friday at 1 p.m. at Mihalik-Thompson Stadium.
