AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- Ohio Dominican University scored five unanswered points Saturday to erase an early Slippery Rock University lead and record a 5-4 victory in Division II college baseball action as part of the RussMatt Central Florida Invitational at Lake Myrtle Park.

SRU took full advantage of four ODU errors in the top of the second inning to score four unearned runs and take the early lead, but the Panthers clawed their way back to snatch victory from the jaws of defeat.

ODU (3-2) scored two runs in the bottom of the third inning to trim The Rock's lead in half, then got a single run in the fifth to make a 4-3 game before it scored two runs in the bottom of the eighth inning to claim the win.

The loss dropped SRU's season record to 4-6-1 and was the fifth one-run setback of the season for the Green and White.

Senior third baseman Lee Foxton (pictured) was 3-for-5 and junior second baseman Matt Curtis was 2-for-4 to lead a nine-hit Rock offensive attack.

Curtis, senior center fielder Derek Carr and junior catcher Ben Bechtol each collected one RBI for SRU.

Freshman right-hander Kyle Schneider, the third of four pitchers used in the game by veteran Rock head coach Jeff Messer, was tagged with the loss. Schneider allowed two earned runs on three hits and walked one batter in two-thirds of an inning of work.

Rock starting pitcher Garret Peterson, also a freshman righty, allowed three runs (one earned) on three hits, struck out one and walked two in the first four and one-third innings.

Junior southpaw Joby Lapkowicz struck out three batters and allowed two hits in two and two-thirds innings before giving way to Schneider.

Sophomore right Anthony Naso replaced Schneider and struck out the only batter to face him.

The Rock is idle Sunday before taking on regional rival Charleston (W. Va.) in a 9:30 a.m. doubleheader Monday at Chain O'Lakes Park in Winter Haven, Fla.
