SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Junior forward
Tabari Perry scored a career-high 22 points Wednesday night to lead Slippery Rock University to an 84-61 victory over visiting Lock Haven University in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division men's basketball action in Morrow Field House.
Perry was one of four Rock players who finished the game with a double-digit scoring total. Senior forward
Devin Taylor scored 18 points and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds for his sixth “double-double” performance of the season.
Senior guards
Torrance Timothy and
Jon Valeriano each added 10 points for The Rock, who recorded their third consecutive victory and improved their season records to 9-4 overall and 6-3 in PSAC action.
Timothy also handed out a game-high six assists and senior guard
Tommy Kelly had seven rebounds and five assists.
The Rock win, coupled with losses by Gannon University (76-72 vs. Edinboro University) and Mercyhurst College (71-66 to Clarion University), moved SRU into a four-way tie for third place in the PSAC-West standings, two games off the pace being set by Indiana (Pa.) and one-game behind second-place Clarion.
SRU is tied with Edinboro, Gannon and Mercyhurst, all of which have 8-5 overall records and 6-3 PSAC marks, for fourth place.
SRU travels to Mercyhurst for a 3 p.m. game Saturday and visits California (Pa.) for a 7:30 p.m. game next Wednesday, Jan. 18, before hosting Edinboro in the next home game, a 3 p.m. contest Jan. 21.
Wednesday's win was the 66th in
Kevin Reynolds' four-year reign as The Rock's head coach and moved him into sole possession of fourth place on the school's all-time wins list, one ahead of Dave Rooney (1979-85).
Andre Rivers scored 16 points and Terrell Johnson added 15 points for Lock Haven (0-11 overall, 0-9 PSAC), which suffered its 31st consecutive loss. The Bald Eagles' last win was recorded on Dec. 4, 2010, against Bloomsburg University.
The Rock scored the first five points of the game and never looked back Wednesday night. The hosts held a 10-point (11-1) lead after five minutes of action and were up by 15 points (24-9) after 13 minutes en route to a 35-23 halftime advantage.
SRU enjoyed its largest lead of the game, a 24-point, 68-44 advantage, with seven minutes left to play before Lock Haven closed the gap to 12, 71-59, with 3:15 remaining. A 13-2 Rock run down the stretch set the final margin.
The Rock finished the game with a 45% (32-71) efficiency on its field-goal attempts with a 35% (13-37) showing from 3-point range and made seven of nine (78%) free throws.
Behind Taylor's lead, the hosts dominated the backboards, as evidenced by a 51-27 rebounding margin. Both teams committed 11 turnovers.
Lock Haven shot 38% (20-53) from the floor, 31% (4-13) from 3-point range and 65% (17-26) from the foul line.

The Rock has now outrebounded all 13 of their opponents this season ... SRU entered the game as the NCAA Division II national leader in rebounding margin with a +11.0 per game average ... The Rock is now 7-0 against Lock Haven under Reynolds and holds a 70-37 advantage in the all-time series.
