SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Junior catcher Matt Accardi slapped an RBI single to center field with two outs in the bottom of the seventh inning to give Slippery Rock University a 12-11 win in the second game and a split of Sunday's Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division baseball doubleheader vs. Indiana (Pa.) at Jack Critchfield Park.

Indiana (15-21, 7-9 PSAC-W) won Sunday's opening game by a 9-5 score.

The split gave SRU a 22-12 overall record, an 11-5 mark in PSAC-West action and a one-half game lead over second-place Mercyhurst College in the division standings (Complete PSAC-West standings can be found at the end of this recap).

The second-game win was SRU's 15th in the last 20 games after a 7-7 start to the 2011 campaign.

Accardi's game-winning hit capped a two-run, final-inning Rock rally and came one inning after he had lined a double down the right field line with two outs in the sixth to make it an 11-10 game.

SRU held a 5-0 lead after three innings in Game 2, only to see Indiana explode for six runs in the top of the fifth to take a 6-5 lead,

The Rock responded with two runs in the bottom of the fifth to regain the lead at 7-6, but Indiana came right back with a five-run rally in the top of the sixth to take an 11-7 lead.

Undaunted, SRU responded with three tallies in the bottom of the sixth to trim the margin to 11-10 and set the stage for the game-winning rally.

In the first game, SRU held a 3-1 lead after three innings before Indiana scored seven unanswered runs to take control of the game.

SRU outhit Indiana by a 16-11 margin in the second game to finish with a 26-22 hitting edge in the twinbill.

Senior first baseman Derek DiRuscia led The Rock offensive attack with five hits, including an opening-game RBI triple, in seven at bats. He had a team-high three hits in the first game.

Senior shortstop Adam Jury chipped in four hits in eight at bats in the twinbill, highlighted by a three-run home run in the second game, his third roundtripper in four games during the weekend series vs. Indiana.

Jury had five RBIs in Sunday's twinbill, four of which came in Game 2, to finish the weekend with 10 RBIs, which propelled him into the team lead with 36 this spring. He batted .438 (7-for-16) in the series.

Junior second baseman Lee Foxton was 4-for-7 with a pair of hits in each game Sunday. His first home run of the season, a solo shot to left field in the bottom of the first inning, accounted for the first run in the second game.

Sophomore left-hander Joby Lapkowicz was the starting and losing pitcher in Game 1 and saw his season record fall to 4-3 after he allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits, struck out five and walked three in the first four innings.

Lapkowicz was the first of four pitchers Rock head coach Jeff Messer used in the first game.

Freshman right-hander Ryan Oglesby, the fourth pitcher used by Messer in the second game, picked up the win to improve his season record to 4-0.

Oglesby, after allowing three earned runs on two hits and walking two in one inning of work in Game 1, pitched a hitless and scoreless final inning and struck out two in Game 2.

The Rock get right back in action Monday with a 1:30 p.m. non-division doubleheader at Shippensburg.

The Green and White are then idle until Friday, when they are scheduled to host Lock Haven in a 1 p.m. PSAC-West doubleheader.
