Taylor scores 25 points in Rock's 64-47 exhibition loss at Penn State

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- Senior forward Devin Taylor scored 25 points to account for over half of Slippery Rock University's points Saturday afternoon in a 64-47 exhibition-game loss at Big Ten Conference member Penn State University.

Taylor, who played 37 of a possible 40 minutes in the game, also grabbed a team-high six rebounds. Junior guard Aubin Reeves scored seven points, handed out a team-high five assists and grabbed five rebounds in a co-star role.

The Rock buried 54% percent (7 of 13) of their 3-point shots and made 44% (17 of 39) of their overall shots from the floor and outrebounded the Nittany Lions by a 31-28 margin, but shot a frigid 55% (6 of 11) from the foul line and committed 25 turnovers.

Penn State shot 40% (23 of 57) from the field, 27% (7 of 26) from 3-point range and 69% (11 of 16) from the charity stripe and committed only nine turnovers.

Tim Frazier had team-high numbers of 19 points, seven assists and six rebounds for the Nittany Lions, while Billy Oliver scored 16 points and Trey Lewis chipped in 10 points.

The Rock trailed by 11 points, 34-23, at halftime but closed the gap to only four points (43-39) with 11 minutes left to play before Penn State went on a 9-0 run in the next four minutes to push the margin back to double digits.

The Nittany Lions held their largest lead of the game, a 21-point, 62-41, advantage with 2:45 left to play.

The Rock officially opens its 2011-12 season with a 7 p.m. home game Friday against Westminster College in Morrow Field House.
