ORLANDO, Fla. -- The Slippery Rock University All-Female Cheerleading Team won the Universal Cheerleading Association Division II National Collegiate Cheerleading Championships crown Saturday in competition at Disney World.
The Rock unseated defending national champion Southern Connecticut University and bested the University West Georgia, which won five straight national titles from 2004-08, to claim the top honor this year.
West Georgia finished second behind The Rock in this year's competition and was followed in the final standings by Northern Kentucky University, Avila University, Southern Connecticut, Kutztown University, University of Scranton, Angelo State (Texas) University and Concord (W. Va.) University
The national championship effort came one year after SRU placed fifth in the National Cheerleading Association's national competition.
The Rock's coed cheerleading team competed in its national competition late Saturday night. Results of that competition will be posted online Sunday.
The UCA National Collegiate Cheerleading Championships will be aired on a taped delay basis on ESPN2 in the near future.
