BOWIE, Md. -- The Slippery Rock University softball team improved its season record to 9-4 Saturday with a 12-5, 7-2 doubleheader sweep of hosting NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional rival Bowie State.
Saturday's games were the first two played this spring by the hosting Lady Bulldogs.
Sophomore Shauna Walker scattered 13 hits and struck out one in a seven-inning complete-game pitching effort in Game 1.
Sophomore outfielder Jordan Zeunges led The Rock offensive attack as she was 2-for-4 with three RBIs. Freshman Kristen Brant, junior Jessica Kortz, and junior #Kendra Kutz# each added a pair of RBIs.
The Rock helped itself by playing errorless defense, while Bowie State committed five errors in Game 1.
In Game 2, sophomore third baseman Jessica Ellebruch was 3-for-3 with three RBIs to lead The Rock offensive attack. Zeunges had two hits and Brant collected two RBIs to complement Ellebruch's effort.
Rock freshman hurler Shaylee Ianno tossed a three-hit complete game and struck out 10 batters.
The Rock travels to Davis & Elkins College (W.Va.) for a 1 p.m. doubleheader Sunday before returning home to prepare for its home opener Tuesday against Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division rival Edinboro. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
