Rock score last-minute TD to nip Millersville, 28-24

Ryan Lehmeier rushed for 201 yards and two TDs and Brandon Frohnapple passed for the other two Rock scores

Final statistics

MILLERSVILLE, Pa. -- Redshirt sophomore running back Ryan Lehmeier (pictured above) rushed for 201 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winner with 22 seconds left to play, to lead The Rock to a 28-24 come-from-behind win over hosting Millersville in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference "crossover" action Saturday afternoon.

The win evened the Green and White's season record at 1-1 as they prepare for next week's home opener vs. Kutztown (6 p.m.).

Lehmeier's game-winning run capped a 12-play, 73-yard drive and gave The Rock the lead for only the second time in the game.

Millersville took a 10-0 lead in the first quarter before The Rock got on the scoreboard with a seven-play, 55-yard march. Lehmeier capped the drive with a 12-yard TD run with 4:43 left in the opening period.

The hosts extended their lead to 10 points, 17-7, at intermission with the first of two TDs scored by their special teams unit.

Following the halftime break, Rock redshirt sophomore quarterback Brandon Frohnapple led the Green and White on a pair of long scoring drives.

He capped a 13-play, 80-yard drive with a five-yard TD toss to senior tight end Ross Hornish with 3:05 left in the third period.

Frohnapple then gave The Rock its first lead of the game (21-17) when he connected with senior tight end Justin Guadagni for a nine-yard TD to cap a nine-play, 74-yard scoring drive with 13:13 left in the final period.

Millersville regained the lead, 24-21, on a botched Rock punt return that was recovered in the end zone for a Marauder touchdown.

That set up the game-winning drive capped by Lehmeier's second TD run of the game.

Lehmeier has now made three collegiate starts and rushed for 200 or more yards in all three games. He assumed the starting I-Back role when senior Corey Manfull, the No. 2 rusher in the PSAC a year ago, was sidelined with ankle and knee injuries sustained in last week's loss at Seton Hill.

Frohnapple finished the game with a 14-of-30 passing effort for 128 yards and two TDs with no interceptions. He has now thrown for two TDs in each of his collegiate starts.

Senior H-Back Josh Prigorac caught four passes for 49 yards, senior wide receiver Terry Grossetti hauled in three for 30 and Hornish had three catches for 26 yards and a TD.

The Rock offense amassed 402 yards in total offense, 274 on rushing attempts and 128 through the air. The Green and White were three of four in red-zone opportunities Saturday and are now 7-of-8 in scoring chances inside the opponents' 20-yard line this season.

Complementing that awesome attack was a Rock-solid defensive effort that allowed Millersville only 198 yards in offense, 176 of which came on rushing attempts.

Leading the defensive effort again this week was redshirt freshman linebacker Zach Sheridan, who had nine total tackles Saturday after collecting 14 a week ago in the season opener.
