SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Jessica Kortz smacked two grand slam home runs en route to a 10-RBI day Thursday afternoon that led The Rock to a 16-3, 22-5 non-conference doubleheader sweep of visiting Salem International (W. Va.).

Both games ended prematurely, after four and a half innings of a scheduled seven innings, in accordance with the mercy rule.

The wins came on the heels of four straight losses by The Rock and gave the Green and White a 14-6 record heading into Saturday's scheduled doubleheader at Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division rival Indiana U. of Pa.

Note schedule change: The Rock is scheduled to visit division rival Edinboro for a 1 p.m. twinbill Sunday. Those games were originally scheduled for tomorrow (Friday) but were postponed two days due to the threat of inclement weather.

Kortz' grand slams were two of four roundtrippers The Rock hit in Thursday's twinbill. Stacey Rhoades hit a two-run home run as part of a 10-run Rock rally in the bottom of the first inning of Game 1 and Meghan McHenry clobbered a two-run shot in Game 2.

Kortz and Rhoades are now tied for the team lead in HRs with six each, while McHenry has hit three.

The Rock collected 27 hits in the two games, 17 of which came in Game 2. Rhoades had a pair of hits in each game, highlighted by a double and home run in Game 1, while Kortz, Shardea Croes, Lisa Getgen and Jordan Zeunges each finished the day with three hits.

McHenry and Zeunges each had four RBIs on the day, while Getgen and Rhoades each collected three and Croes had two.

Getgen got all of her hits and RBIs in Game 2. She also allowed five runs, only two of which were earned, on seven hits, struck out two and walked two in a five-inning complete-game pitching effort in that game to improve her season record to 5-2.

Rhoades also lent herself offensive support as she had two hits and two RBIs in Game 1, in which she allowed three runs, only one of which was earned, on two hits, struck out one and walked one en route to her fifth win in as many decisions this spring.

The Rock exploded for 10 unearned runs in the bottom of the first inning of Game 1 and added six runs, five of which were earned, in the second frame to take a 16-1 lead after two innings.

In Game 2, SRU erupted for 14 runs in the top of the second inning to turn a 2-1 nailbiter into a blowout. The hosts padded their final margin with three tallies in each of the third and fourth innings.

Kortz and Zeunges each collected four RBIs in Game 1, while Rhoades and Sheree Horvath each picked up two RBIs.

Kortz had six Game 2 RBIs with her grand slam, an RBI single in the first and a bases-loaded walk as part of the second-inning outburst. McHenry added four RBIs and Getgen three in Game 2.

Notes:

Thursday's Game 2 run total is the fourth highest in school history behind three 25-run games (2006 vs. Ohio Valley, 2002 vs. Hartwick and 1981 vs. Edinboro) ... Kortz now has 27 RBIs this spring, which ties her for third place in SRU's single-season record book, and 71 career RBIs, which ranks second on the all-time list.
