Rock finishes 7th in CWPA Western Division tournament

SRU finished the 2008 season with a 4-16 record after losing a 9-8 decision to Washington & Jefferson and winning a 15-7 decision over Penn State-Behrend in action Saturday at Grove City College

GROVE CITY, Pa. -- Heather Walbright scored seven goals Saturday and Beth Choike added six goals to lead The Rock to a seventh-place finish in the Collegiate Water Polo Association Western Division tournament hosted by Grove City College.

Choike scored three goals and had one assist, one steal and three caused kickouts in The Rock' 9-8 loss Saturday morning to Washington & Jefferson. Walbright added two goals, one assist and three steals.

Walbright then scored five goals and had four assists and two steals to pace The Rock to a 15-7 win over Penn State-Behrend in the seventh-place game Saturday afternoon. Choike scored three goals and had two caused kickouts and one steal in the game.

Betsy Wilson scored three goals and had one steal and one caused kickout vs. Penn State-Behrend after she recorded three steals vs. W&J.

Ashley Goodwill also scored three goals in the win over Penn State-Behrend.

Sarah Sander, Megan Jo Ramage and #K.C. Edmondson# each scored a goal vs. W&J. Ramage also had an assist and a steal.

Lindsay Moyer scored a goal vs. Penn State-Behrend, while Sander had an assist and three steals, Caitlin Henney had an assist and Katie Van Campen recorded a steal.

Lauren Surbaugh (pictured above) recorded 12 saves vs. W&J and had 17 turnaways in the win over Penn State-Behrend. Henney also had a save in the latter game.

Saturday's results gave SRU a final record of 4-16 this season and rung down the curtain on the history of Rock women' s water polo.

University officials announced February 8 that the women's water polo intercollegiate varsity program will be discontinued at the conclusion of the 2007-08 academic year.
