SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Second-ranked Lock Haven handed The Rock 10-0 and 6-2 losses Friday afternoon in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division action.
The Rock will now take a 20-14 overall record and a 2-12 PSAC-West mark into Saturday's 1 p.m. home twinbill vs. division rival Edinboro.
Lock Haven is now 32-6 overall and 13-1 in division games.
SRU had only two hits and never got a runner past second base in Game 1 of Friday's twinbill as Lock Haven ace Kristin Erb (27-6) struck out seven batters in the run-rule-shortened, five-inning game.
Stacey Rhoades' one-out single down the right field line in the bottom of the fourth inning ruined Erb's no-hit bid and
Meghan McHenry followed with an infield single. Erb then recorded a strikeout and induced an inning-ending lineout.
Rhoades was tagged with the loss after she allowed seven runs (six earned) on 10 hits, struck out three and walked six in four innings.
Shauna Walker allowed three unearned runs on four hits in the final inning.
The Rock hung with Erb and the Bald Eagles for five innings in Game 2 before the guests put the game away with two runs in the top of the sixth and one run in the seventh.
After not scoring a run off Erb in 18 consecutive innings this season, The Rock broke the spell and scored one run in the bottom of the first inning of Game 2 to tie the score at 1-1.
#Jordan Zeunges# opened The Rock first inning by reaching via an error, moved to second on a single to right field by
Jessica Ellebruch (pictured above), went to third on a groundball by Rhoades and scored on a successful squeeze bunt-single by McHenry.
After Lock Haven scored two runs in the top of the third to take a 3-1 lead, Ellebruch smacked a solo home run leading off the bottom of the third to trim the margin to one run.
That would prove to be the last Rock hit until
Nikki Collins slapped a one-out double in the bottom of the seventh. A groundout and a strikeout left her stranded in the middle of the diamond.
Lisa Getgen pitched a complete game for SRU and finished with six runs allowed (four earned) on 11 hits and one base on balls.
Ellebruch's two hits paced a five-hit Rock attack vs. Erb, who was the 2006 national Player of the Year after leading Lock Haven to the Division II national championship.
