FORT PIERCE, Fla. -- The Rock suffered a quarry-full of woes and ultimately two losses Saturday afternoon in doubleheader action vs. Northwood University of Michigan.

The Rock (3-2) was outscored by a 29-9 margin in 14 innings of action as Northwood (8-3) recorded 11-1 and 18-8 wins at the Bob Gladwin Baseball Complex.

SRU, which was only outhit by a 21-17 margin, contributed to its own demise by committing six errors in the two games. Those miscues resulted in 10 unearned runs being scored by Northwood.

Rock pitchers, meanwhile, issued eight bases on balls, hit eight opposing hitters and threw three wild pitches.

Indicative of the kind of day it was for Rock pitchers, starters Chris Squeglia (5 innings) and Mark Tanner (2.2 innings) each yielded nine total runs, eight of which were earned.

One of the few bright spots in the day's effort for The Rock was a 5-for-6 day at the plate by junior third baseman Billy Herman.

Herman had two hits and collected the only RBI in Game 1 and was 3-for-3 and had two doubles in Game 2.

Junior designated hitter Matt Adams and senior center fielder #M.J. Parsons# each had a single to round out The Rock's four-hit offensive attack in Game 1.

Junior right fielder Scott Bender matched Herman's Game 2 hit total with a 3-for-4 effort that included a two-run home run. Junior shortstop Rich Michalek also collected two RBIs in Game 2.

The Rock and Northwood both had 13 hits in Game 2 after the winners held an 8-4 hit advantage in Game 1.

The Rock will look to put Saturday's losses behind them and start again on a fresh note Sunday when it takes on regional rival Mansfield in a 12:30 p.m. nine-inning single game.

SRU then visits two-time defending NCAA Division II national champion Tampa for a 7 p.m. single game Monday before having a day off Tuesday.
