BOWIE, Md. -- The Rock recorded an 8-5, 9-2 doubleheader sweep of hosting Bowie State in non-conference action Friday to improve its season record to 12-2.
The Green and White are off to their best start since 1980.
Winning pitcher Lisa Getgen helped her own cause with a pair of hits in Game 1 to lead a seven-hit Rock attack, while Nikki Collins collected two RBIs.
Getgen yielded three earned runs on six hits, struck out four and walked two in six innings of mound action.
Jessica Ellebruch led The Rock's Game 2 effort with a 3-for-4, two-RBI game.
Winning pitcher Stacey Rhoades, Whitney Warmus and Jordan Zeunges each added a pair of hits and one RBI.
Rhoades allowed two earned runs of five hits, struck out five and walked two in five innings of mound action before Shauna Walker scattered three hits and walked one in the final two frames.
SRU returns to action Tuesday at Gannon.
The Rock's home opener is set for next Friday, March 28, when SRU will host Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division rival Indiana U. of Pa. in a 2:30 p.m. twinbill.
