WASHINGTON, D.C. -- The NCAA Division II Rock split a twinbill Thursday at Division I Howard University as the Green and White won Game 1 by a 2-1 score before being held to only one hit in a 8-0 Game 2 loss.

The split gives SRU a 10-2 record heading into Friday's doubleheader at Division II Bowie State (Md.).

Howard now owns a 4-9 record this spring.

Jessica Kortz plated both Game 1 runs for The Rock as she smacked a solo home run to lead off the top of the third inning and received a bases-loaded walk in the sixth inning that broke a 1-1 tie.

No Rock hitter had more than one hit in Game 1 as SRU was held to only four hits.

Kortz also had the only Rock hit in Game 2, a one-out single in the top of the fourth inning. The only other Rock baserunners came via five bases on balls issued by Howard pitcher Christina McCoy.

Lisa Getgen held Howard to only three hits and one earned run  in a seven-inning complete-game effort to pick up the Game 1 win. She did not record a strikeout nor issue a base on balls.

Sheree Horvath was tagged with the Game 2 loss after she allowed five earned runs on 10 hits, struck out one and walked one in the first four innings.

Shauna Walker allowed three earned runs on two hits and struck out one in the final one-third inning as the game ended prematurely in accordance with the mercy rule.
