Rock closes spring trip with 7-3 win over Post

Saturday's win was the third straight for the Green and White and gives them an 8-5 overall record

FORT PIERCE, Fla. -- The Rock scored seven unanswered runs Saturday morning to record a come-from-behind, 7-3 victory over Post University in the final game of the Green and White's spring=-break trip to Florida.

The win was the third straight for SRU, which now owns an 8-5 overall record. The Rock was 6-5 in spring-break games.

SRU is scheduled to return to action Tuesday at Ohio Valley University (W. Va.). The home opener is scheduled for Wednesday at 1 p.m. vs. Wheeling Jesuit University.

Junior shortstop Rich Michalek was for 4-for-5 with a triple and collected two RBIs to lead a 15-hit Rock attack.

Junior third baseman Billy Herman was 3-for-5 with an RBI, while junior right fielder Scott Bender was 2-for-5, one of which was a triple, and collected two RBIs.

Sophomore right-hander Vince Lloyd, the third of four pitchers used by Rock head coach Jefff Messer, picked up the win. He allowed one hit, struck out five and walked one in three innings.

Freshman southpaw Brett Vescovi was The Rock's starting pitcher and allowed two earned runs on two hits, struck out two and walked three in one inning of work.

Junior righty Don Pugliese relieved Vescovi and allowed one unearned run on three hits, struck out five and walked one in four innings.

Senior righty and co-captain Mike DeCola struck out two and walked one in the final inning.

Post scored two runs in the top of the first inning and added one tally in the second to take a 3-0 lead, but was blanked over the final seven frames.

SRU one run in the bottom of the third inning and two in the fifth to tie the game at 3-3, got what proved to be the winning run in the sixth and added three insurance runs in the eighth.
