Weiss, Reagan earn berths in national championships

Rock standouts Jeff Weiss and Pat Reagan placed third and fourth, respectively, in Saturday's NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional meet at Cooper's Lake Campground

SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. -- Rock standouts Jeff Weiss and Pat Reagan finished third and fourth, respectively, in Saturday's NCAA Division II Atlantic Regional Championships at Cooper's Lake Campground to earn berths in the national championship event.

Weiss (pictured above) and Reagan recorded times of 31:33 and 31:39, respectively, Saturday.

Weiss will be making his fourth straight trip to the national championships, while Reagan is a second-time participant. Both runners attained All-America status in their previous national championship appearances.

The individual champion was Chris Clark of California (Pa.), who ran a course-record time fo 31:00 -- 35 seconds faster than the previous mark.

As two of the top five finishers in Saturday's regional race, Weiss and Reagan earned the right to compete in the Nov. 22 national meet, which will also be held at Cooper's Lake.

As a team, The Rock finished third Saturday -- one spot shy of earning a team berth in the national meet for the second consecutive season.

The Rock, which finished ninth in the 2007 national meet team standings, entered Saturday's meet ranked second in the region by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.

Lock Haven won the team title with 51 points, followed by Edinboro with 71 and SRU with 79.

George Walton# (12th at 32:51), Jason Leonard (24th at 33:25), Brian Ulrich (36th at 33:51), Evan Matthews (57th at 34:41) and Kevin Dustin (62nd at 34:49).
