Matt Adams was 3-for-5 with three doubles and three RBIs Saturday afternoon but it went for naught as The Rock dropped an 11-10 decision to West Chester in 10 innings in the losers bracket of the NCAA Division II North Atlantic Regional tournament.
The loss gave The Rock a 35-17 final record for the 2007 season and a third-place finish in the regional tournament to go along with a No. 3 finish in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference tournament two weeks earlier.
West Chester (33-15) will play Kutztown (48-5) in the regional championship game at noon Sunday.
Saturday's loss was an especially frustrating in light of the fact that SRU enjoyed a 9-0 after only two innings of play and had a 10-3 advantage after five innings.
Adams, who finished the season with a school-record 24 doubles, was one of four players with multiple hits in the game. Billy Herman was 2-for-four with three runs scored and two RBIs, M.J. Parsons was 2-for-4 with a double and a two-run home run and Billy Messer had two doubles in six at bats and collected one RBI.
The Rock collected 11 hits in the game, eight of which went for extra bases. Dan Hudeck had a two-run double to round out the list of extra-base knocks.
Craig Misiewicz was tagged with the loss after he allowed three earned runs on five hits, struck out six and walked one in the final three and two-thirds innings.
Rock starting pitcher Mark Tanner yielded eight runs (five earned) on nine hits, struck out two and walked four in the first six and one-third frames.
