Game 1 Box Score
Game 2 Box Score
California, Pa. -
Stacey Rhoades smacked a pair of home runs Tuesday afternoon and, in the process, tied the school record for roundtrippers but could not lead The Rock to victory in a Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference-Western Division doubleheader at California U. of Pa.
The hosting Vulcans scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to win a 3-2 decision in Game 1, then rode a four-run fifth inning to a 7-5 win in Game 2.
The losses dropped SRU's overall record to 14-14 and its PSAC-West mark to 1-5.
California is now 6-10, 3-3.
Rhoades certainly carried her share of the load Monday. She hit a solo home run in the top of the first inning of Monday's first game to give SRU an early lead. Her second roundtripper of the day, a three-run shot in the top of the seventh inning of Game 2, trimmed the final margin to two runs.
The circuit clouts raised Rhoades' season total to nine, which ties the mark set a year ago by Meghan McHenry.
Rhoades finished the day with three hits and four RBIs and, with a single in the fourth inning of Game 2, was the only Rock player to collect more than one hit in either game.
A two-run single by Kayla Ray in the top of the fourth tied the score at 2-2 and accounted for the other Rock runs in Game 2.
Lisa Getgen (4-5), the second of three pitchers used by Rock head coach Vashion Johnson, was tagged with the Game 2 loss after she allowed four earned runs on two hits and walked two in one inning of work.
Rock starter Liz Pittman allowed three earned runs on seven hits in the first 3 2/3 innings. Sheree Horvath allowed one hit, struck out one and walked one in the final 1 1/3 innings.
Horvath's pinch-hit, RBI single in the top of the seventh gave SRU a 2-1 lead in Game 1.
Courtney Conron (4-6) allowed three runs on seven hits, struck out six and walked four in a complete-game pitching effort in Game 1.
The Rock returns to action on Wednesday, when it will visit Clarion for a 2:30 p.m. PSAC-West twinbill.
Those games open a string of four doubleheaders in as many days for the Green and White.
SRU visits Salem International for a non-conference doubleheader on Thursday, then visits Lock Haven for a PSAC-West twinbill Friday before entertaining Edinboro in a 1 p.m. doubleheader Saturday.
